10 months of Community Work at BSA Pasig is now Paying Off. Let us take a peek at how one of the residents drops off his Bokashied Food Waste to the garden and how he drops of PET bottles and other plastic wastes to a Decathlon drop-off point. This is now part of a monthly habit that couple Juan and Katrina Ballecer have established as a result of the 30-day Garbage to Garden Challenge. They are now Certified Bokashi Pinoy Practitioners.
Leading the residents to their own community garden was a transformation/ change process that did not happen overnight - it took almost 10 months to get to this point. Basically, we adhered to the 5 Steps in the Change Management Process

Through the 30-day Garbage to Garden Challenge - the residents and the Pasig Street sweepers managing the community garden, experienced a transformational/behavioral/habit-forming program that made household waste management not only satisfying and fun but also self-fulfilling. Engage For 10 straight months, Bokashi Pinoy and the landless farmers of Nueva Ecija participated in the Basura to Ayuda Program initiated by Maika Samson (Certified Bokashi Pinoy Practitioner - Batch 3). Every Last Saturday of the month, we were at the garden to personally engage with the residents of the barangay as well as donors of Bokashied Food Waste and other recyclables from other nearby barangays. The Pasig Street Sweepers manning the garden - headed by Miss Emma have been winning the annual gardening contest in the City. The 5 Stages of Bokashi Pinoy Composting Method- helped them to bag a full score - of 100% on the Composting category for the said contest. Miss Emma told the judges that residents come regularly to the garden to bring Bokashied Food Waste which they then either bury directly into their garden plots or add to their compost pile (which we also taught them how to build).
Now, they are also interested to resell not just our Bokashi Pinoy Starter Kits and Bokashi Ipa refills - but also interested to learn how they can package their compost so that they can also sell it to the frequent visitors of the garden. When this happens, our dream will have turned into a reality - the residents will now have a true Eco- Garden Experience.
Now that we have proven that this is possible even in Ortigas Center and San Antonio Village in Pasig - it is just a matter of scaling it so that it will become applicable to the whole city. Our trajectory in Pasig was slowed down - but it seems the Quezon City LGU is finally giving us a break to also prove our worth - in leading this transformation not just for a Barangay but also for a City.
